On April 9, 2026, the 93rd China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) opened at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. During the opening ceremony, representatives from Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions and the Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization (HKBIO) formally signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the Hong Kong International Biotechnology Conference and Exhibition (BIOHK). The two parties will jointly host BIOHK2026, which will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 9 to 12 this year.

In 2025, China’s biopharmaceutical industry experienced rapid growth, ranking second globally in terms of market size. The number of innovative drugs in development reached approximately 30% of the global total, meeting domestic demand while gradually competing in the international market. The total value of outbound licensing transactions for Chinese innovative drugs exceeded $130 billion, accounting for 49% of the global total and surpassing that of the United States. Domestic innovations are gradually gaining recognition in mainstream global markets, marking the comprehensive rise of China’s biopharmaceutical industry. Under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, leveraging its unique advantage of “backed by the motherland, connected to the world,” Hong Kong continues to play its distinctive role as a “super connector.” It assists domestic biotechnology enterprises in expanding into international markets while attracting high-quality global projects and resources. Through the combination of “bringing in” and “going out,” Hong Kong promotes cross-border innovation and collaboration in the biopharmaceutical sector.

Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions and HKBIO will jointly host the 5th BIOHK at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 9 to 12, 2026. Featuring “Where Leaders Unite, Biotech Advances”, BIOHK2026 aims to promote the deep synergy and co-development of biotechnology across borders, and to build a biopharmaceutical communication and exchange platform and innovation ecosystem with international influence.

In China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, the 2026 Government Work Report explicitly included biopharmaceuticals in the layout of emerging pillar industries for the first time. BIOHK2026 will leverage Hong Kong’s unique geographical and resource advantages, such as research synergy, corporate partnerships, and industry-finance integration, to connect global research capabilities, industry players, and capital resources.
